Why You need a Mobile Version of Your Web Site

The mobile version of our King Marketing website as it appears on a smart phone.

Think about how you access web sites outside of work.  Do you find you’re doing it more and more from your phone or table, rather than your desk top?  Are you looking things up while your shopping?  Do you watch TV and check out sites on your phone or tablet at the same time?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, than we’re happy to announce that you are normal.  In general, more web sites are being accessed by mobile devices today than by the traditional desk top computer.

Here’s even more sobering numbers.  According to research performed by Google, 61% of users will quickly leave a site on their mobile device if they can’t quickly find what they want.  In other words, if your website isn’t mobile friendly, mobile users will leave it quickly.

So, if more and more people use their mobile devices to visit your website, and if they don’t find your website mobile friendly, you’re going to lose business.

Don’t lose business.  Instead, let us create a mobile version of your current website.  That way, desktop users will still go to your regular site, while mobile users will automatically go to your mobile site.  Everyone gets an easy way to go through your website.  Web traffic goes up, and business goes up.

Here at King Marketing, Inc., in addition to building great websites for desktops, we also build websites for mobile devices.

Research shows Smart Phone Users will avoid your site if not Mobile Friendly

Imagine how hard it would be to shop Amazon if they didn't offer a mobile version.

You might just think that having a mobile-friendly website would be a nice thing for people visiting your site.  It might be a bit more important than that.

Sterling Research and SmithGeiger conducted research this summer of over 1,000 smartphone internet users.  Almost all of them (96%) reported they encounter sites clearly not designed for mobile.  Half of them said that even if they like a business, they will use them less often if the website isn’t mobile-friendly, and they said they are more likely to return to sites that are mobile-friendly.

So, it really does make a difference having your site optimized for smart phone and tablet users, and this is the fastest growing area of the internet.

Google concludes from the new study that non-mobile friendly sites can actually damage a company’s reputation: 36% of respondents said they felt like they’ve wasted their time by visiting those sites, and 52% of users said that a bad mobile experience made them less likely to engage with a company. Almost half felt that a site that works poorly on a smartphone indicates a company that does not care about their business. It’s almost the same thing as opening a store with no place for customers to park.

Successful marketing is making it as easy as possible for your customer to buy your product or service.

We can make it easy for you to convert your current website to a new mobile version.  Give us a call, or send us an email.

Dividing our Media Time

It’s 8:30 on a Thursday nigh and there you are, sitting and waiting for your new TV commercial to run in the local break between “Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men.”  What a great time slot. Lot’s of people are watching.  Or are they?

True, a lot of people are sitting there with the TV’s tuned to their local CBS station at8:30 on a Thursday night.  The problem is, in addition to watching TV, they’re also very likely to be using their smart phone, or tablet, or PC at the very same time.

You may have heard that hardly anyone just watches TV anymore, without simultaneously surfing, Twittering, or otherwise engaged in using some other shiny new tech device.  Now, we have new research from Google that backs this idea up.

The Big Four Media today are TV, Smart Phone, Tablet, and PC.  As a nation, we’re on these devices, in some combination, about 4.4 hours per day.

Of these, people watch TV the most, about 43 minutes a day.  But, 77% of the time, we are also using a second device, usually a smart phone or tablet, at the same time.

Not only do these four devices hog most of our available media time every day, leaving us with precious little time to read a newspaper or magazine. And when we are watching TV, we’re dividing our attention, or at least augmenting it by perhaps following a Twitter Feed about the program on our TV screen.  That’s why TV programs now actually run the Twitter feed along the bottom of the screen during their programs.

Smart phones are used in the shortest bursts and for only a total of 17 minutes each day.  On the other hand, Smart phones is where people begin the process.  After getting information from their small screen smart phone, they usually move to a larger screen to finish.  Smart phones initiate the marketing process, but they may not complete it.

You can read about this study here.

The tech world changes quickly, so it’s hard to make predictions, however, right now, here’s how it looks.  Transactions will begin on smart phones, and move on from there.

Businesses that master smart phone marketing will profit better than those who rely on customers eventually finding you on TV, or their PC or tablet, or certainly by just wandering into your physical location.

How does your web site look on a smart phone?  We can create a smart phone version of your website that mobile users will see, while PC users will continue to see your current site.  Call us at (260) 489-2884 and learn more about it.  Learn more about us and our Internet Marketing Programs by clicking here.

What are people doing with all those fancy new I-pads and Android Tablets.  They’re watching videos. That’s what a March 2012 study by the Online Publishers Association says   Next up, they’re checking the weather, then the local news, then the national news, followed by enteretainment content.  All of this is making it harder for people to see your advertising.  Harder, but not impossible.  If almost half of users use their tablet to get their local news, they’re not reading the newspaper, or watching the local newscasts on TV.

Today, you need to reach people where they are, not where they used to go.  If they are watching videos, you need to run your video online.  We can do that for you.  We create web videos and TV commercials. Your video runs just before they view their video.  You’ve seen this all the time on major websites, and yes, your commercial can play right there, on their tablets just before they watch a local news story, or see see what’s the latest with Kim Kardashian.

Everyone with a tablet also has access to everything on the internet, including your website.  But you have to make sure they can find it in the search engines, (SEO), and that there’s plenty of content available to keep them interested long enough to buy from you. (Internet Marketing).

Tablet behavior is changing the way people interact with media.  Now, you just need to change the way you do your marketing and advertising to align yourself with these new behaviors.

Local Ad Spending Moving More to Mobile and Online

For many years, local advertising was placed in the newspaper, local radio and TV stations, in outdoor and direct mail.  Today, local advertising is spreading quicklyonline.  According to a company that tracks local ad spending, BIA/Kelsey Media, local ad spending overall is growing at an annual rate of 2/6% and will continue to do so, with the greatest growth coming in online and mobile advertising.

If you’ve been increasing your ad investment in digital advertising, you’re not alone.  And if you haven’t been, you may be left behind.  More and more local digital options are available, and businesses are seeing a solid return on their investments.  While local radio, TV, and newspaper aren’t going away soon (we hope), they too are offering more and more on line options, and that trend will also continue.

Remember, King Marketing, Inc. is an internet marketing agency.  We’re here to help you navigate through the new digital opportunities with services such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Content building, website creation, and digital advertising.

Local Ad Spending Moving More to Mobile and Online

According to BIA/Kelsey’s Media Ad View reports, local ad spending will experience a compound annual growth rate of 2.6 percent between 2011 and 2016, with revenues climbing from around $132 billion to more than $150 billion. BIA/Kelsey expects spending to increasingly shift from traditional media and direct advertising to digital alternatives. Mobile and online will account for the largest increase in local ad spending, nearly doubling from $11.1 billion in 2011 to $21.8 billion in five years.

Online Sales Just keep Growing

So, how much do you think the average consumer will purchase online this year?  $100?  That’s so last decade.  Try $1042.00.  That’s right; Americans who buy online will spend just over a grand this year on e-purchases.  That’s millions of dollars here in our own community that local people used to spend here in our local stores that is now being spent on line.

The Question is, how much of this are you getting?

The answer, sadly for most local businesses is, none.  At least none directly.  People may still go to your site, check out what you have and decide to come to your brick and mortar store rather than buy online.  But the online buying trend is rising so rapidly, anyone who owns a retail business has to be concerned.  Sure, not every product is suitable for e-commerce.  But that’s changing as well.  My wife has purchased clothing and shoes on line.  Sizing can be a problem with clothing, but companies are working on solving this problem, and delivering a more accurate and predictable sized product, or making it easy to make returns.

Look around.  Borders is gone.  Best Buy is struggling.  And everyone else is seeing customers come in, looking at products, then pulling out their smart phones and getting an internet price and placing the order online.

Revolutions are happening all the time.  We are in the middle of one right now.  Those who adapt will win.  Adapt.

Find out how we can help you on our website here.

Resolutions for a More Successful 2012

Over the past few weeks, several people have commented to me that they have a feeling the economy here in Northeast Indiana doesn’t feel so bad anymore.  They are right in this assumption.  Unemployment has fallen primarily because the auto industry is doing fairly well, and this area is still reliant on manufacturing.  While the housing market has not recovered, big construction projects like Parkview Hospital are keep workers employed who otherwise might have been building houses.  With all this said, things aren’t really back to where they were in 2008, or before 2000., and they may not be again, or at least for a long time.  Unemployment is still too high and personal income for those who are working has been falling.

So, the good news as we start a new year is that money is out there and people are spending it.  The bad news is that they have less of it than before.

This means we need to work smarter and more efficiently than ever before if want to earn our “unfair” share of the pie.

The definition of advertising is whatever causes people to buy your product or service.  In other words, they can’t buy from you, if they don’t know about you or understand how you product helps them fill a need.

This means that all business starts with advertising or promotion.  A lot of businesses today simply don’t have the same amount of resources available for advertising as they did even a few years ago.  Still, in this economy, where fewer consumer dollars are available you need to increase your share of sales in order to maintain business at the same level you had it before the recession started..   That normally would require increasing your advertising budget, but for most businesses today it means taking a smaller ad budget and making it work harder.

This won’t work with traditional advertising such as radio, TV and newspaper.    The biggest returns on advertising investment today are on the internet.

Sure, you have a web site, but that’s not enough.  Your site must have the information you need to tell your customers presented in a compelling manner.  Your site must be on the first page of search engine results, or no one will visit it.  You must build a relationship with your potential customers using social media so they will feel comfortable about doing business with you and not someone else.

So, as you think about what you can do to make 2012 a better year for your business, here are some New Year’s resolutions you should make and keep.

1.  Review your website.  If it’s old, or not very informative, bring it up to date.  Add video and a blog.

2. Do a Google search of your business using common search engine terms a potential customer might use.  If you don’t show up on the top of page one, contact a search engine optimization (SEO) company (such as ours) and get them working on your website immediately.  You can take the cost of this out of your ad budget because the higher your business shows up in a search, the more likely potential customers will click on your site.  If you’re on page two or worse, you’re getting a very low percentage of the action.  Every position you move up will increase your website’s traffic, and if you have a good website, that will increase your business.

3. Get involved with Social Media such as Facebook or LinkedIn.  Your competition has already started doing this.  This is only going to become more important as the year’s roll on.  Start now.  No, right now.  Again, if you don’t know how, get help.

No matter what business you’re in, websites, social media, videos, blogs, and social networks are taking over.  Resolve today that your business will be a part of it in 2012.

By the way, we resolve to offer free seminars in 2012 to help educate businesses on using Internet Marketing.  Watch for them here on our blog, become a Facebook Fan, or subscribe to our Twitter feed.

Everyone here at King Marketing wishes you the very best in the coming year.  Let’s turn every challenge into an opportunity so we can really have something to celebrate on December 31, 2012.
